May 03, 2025 am 09:52 AMNew York Times Strands game tips, full letter words and answers (May 3, 2025)
Hello everyone! Here are the tips, full letter words and answers for The New York Times Strands game Saturday, May 3.
Strands gameplay
The New York Times Strands game is a variant of the classic text search game that can be found on the New York Times website and the New York Times game app, along with games like Wordle and Connections (we also cover both games in Forbes Gaming's daily guide).
There will be new Strands games every day. The game will provide a letter grid of six rows and eight columns. The goal is to find a set of words that have commonalities, and the game will give clues about the topic. Once the subject word is found, it will be highlighted in blue.
You also need to find a special word called the full letter word. It tells you what words have in common. The full letter word connects at least both sides of the board, but it may not start or end there. Although the subject word will not be a proper noun, a full letter word can be a proper noun. Once the full letter word is found, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Each letter is used only once in a subject and full letter words. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and you can change directions in the middle of the word. If you are playing the game on the touch screen, double-click the last letter to submit your guess.
If you find three valid words with at least four letters that are not part of the subject, you will unlock the prompt button. Clicking this button will highlight the letters that make up one of the topic words.
Note: You need to be vigilant. Sometimes you need to fill in the missing words in the phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty changes every day, and the game creator sometimes tries to surprise you.

What is the answer to the New York Times Strands today?
Before I reveal the full list of words, I will first tell you the full letter word and show you where it is in the grid.
This is your last spoiler warning!
Today's Strands full letter word is...
DOCTOR'S KIT (Doctor's Toolkit)
You can find it in the grid...
Today's Strands theme is...
- STETHOSCOPE (stethoscope)
- DOCTOR'S KIT (Doctor's Toolkit)
- SYRINGE (Syringe)
- TAPE (tape)
- GAUZE (Gauze)
- THERMOMETER
The finished grid looks like this...
I immediately understood that this was related to practicing medicine. I saw "optic" and then "doctor" and "doctors" so I thought I could unlock a prompt, too. This gives me TAPE (tape), which makes it easier to see the full letter words. Next is GAUZE (gauze), then SYRINGE (syringe).
Knowing that there are only six topic words on the grid, the remaining two must be longer words. So I soon found STETHOSCOPE and THERMOMETER to finish the game.
I used a prompt that the full letter word is the second topic word I found.
See you tomorrow, more Strands fun!
