NYT 'Strands' Hints, Spangram And Answers For Monday, April 21
Apr 21, 2025 am 09:50 AMForbes and NYT team up to launch the word game "Strands", analysis and answers on Sunday, April 20
Author: Paul Tassi
Today's Strands puzzles are unique and I believe they can help you play them all day.
Strands Game Rules
The New York Times’ Strands game is a variation of the classic text search game. Currently in the beta phase, only if enough people participate every day can we continue to retain it.
There will be new Strands games every day. The game will provide a letter grid of six rows and eight columns. The goal is to find a set of words that have common points, and the game will give corresponding clues. Once the subject word is found, it will be highlighted in blue.
You also need to find a special word called "spangram" (full letter word). It will tell you what these words have in common. Full letter words connect both sides of the board. The subject word will not be a proper noun, but full letter words can be a proper noun. Once the full letter word is found, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Note: You need to focus.
"Some topics are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They can also be steps in the process, items in the same category, synonyms or homophones," the New York Times noted. "Just like she changes the difficulty of Wordle in a week, [Wordle and Strands Editor Tracy] Bennett plans to give Strands players some puzzles occasionally."
What is the Strands prompt today?
First is the NYT prompt, then mine:
How talented!
My tip is:
America's Got Talent
The two are similar, but my tips will bring you closer to the answer.
What is the answer to Strands today?
First there are full letter words, then the complete list of answers. The full letter words are:
VARIETYACTS (Just Show)
Its position on the board is as follows:
The answer is:
- ACROBAT (Acrobat)
- MAGICIAN (Magician)
- JUGGLER (Juggling Actor)
- COMIC (Comedian)
- DANCER (Dancer)
- DUET (Duote)
I'm not sure how many people use the word "variety acts" now, but once you start solving the problem, you'll understand what it means. I used the "America's Got Talent" in the prompts because it's really a link between modern audiences' widespread perception of these things (especially niche things like jugglers or magicians). Is a duet considered a juggling performance? I guess I didn't realize this before.
