The New York Times puzzle game Strands Daily Tips, Riddles and Answers (April 18, 2025)
Hello everyone! Here are tips, puzzles and answers for The New York Times Strands puzzle game dated Friday, April 18, 2025.
How to play Strands
The New York Times' Strands puzzle game is a variation of the classic text search game. You can find it on the New York Times website and the New York Times game app, along with games like Wordle and Connections (we also covered both in Forbes Gaming's daily guide).
There will be a new Strands game every day. The game will give you a letter grid of six rows and eight columns. The goal is to find a set of words that have common ground and you will get clues about the topic. When you find the subject word, it will be highlighted in blue.
You also need to find a special word called a puzzle. This will tell you what these words have in common. The puzzle connects at least the sides of the board, but it may not start or end there. Although the subject word will not be a proper noun, the riddle can be a proper noun. When you find the puzzle, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Each letter is used only once in a topic word and puzzle. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and you can change directions in the middle of the word. If you are playing games on the touch screen, double-click the last letter to submit your guess.
If you find three valid words with at least four letters that are not part of the topic, you will unlock the prompt button. Clicking this button will highlight the letters that make up one of the topic words.
Please note: You need to be vigilant. Sometimes you need to fill in the missing words in the phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty changes every day, and the creator sometimes tries to surprise you.
