Grand Theft Auto 5 recently came out with an enhanced version for players on PC, but many are unable to migrate their accounts over to the new edition. GTA Online enhanced brings several new features to the long-running game: new vehicles, new challenges, and new ways to track progress. The upgrade is totally free, but it's encountered more than a few issues since launch, with players complaining of problems with performance and visuals.

But it gets worse: some players can't even access their old accounts on the enhanced version of GTA Online. It's understandably frustrating: no one wants to give up years of progress on GTA Online, even if GTA 6's online version is on its way. However, there are a few different remedies you can try if you're repeatedly running into this issue. I recommend trying the following in order to see if they resolve your migrating difficulties with GTA Online.

How To Tell If Your Account Is Eligible For Migration To GTA V Enhanced

Previously Suspended Players May Not Be Able To Transfer

First and foremost, you need to make sure your account is eligible for migration to GTA 5's enhanced edition. The upgrade is only available for players on PC; you can't migrate an account from a console edition to the game, or vice versa. You'll have to have a currently active account on the PC version of GTA Online to transfer your progress.

In addition, accounts that have been previously banned or suspended aren't eligible for migration. If you're not sure about your record, try searching your email inbox for notifications from Rockstar; you would have received one if your account was ever penalized. In addition, some players are reporting that they can't transfer their accounts with modded cash or items on them, even if they were never actually banned for the mods. Unfortunately, there's no workaround for this.

Insufficient Progress May Block Your Migration Attempt

If you've only played a little bit of GTA Online, you may have to progress further in the game before you can access the enhanced version. Rockstar's official troubleshooting page suggests that "insufficient progress" may prevent account migration; it's unclear just how much progress is considered enough to transfer your account, but it's clear that you need to have reached a certain milestone. You may want to try logging into your account, playing for a bit, then signing off and trying migration again.

Make Sure You've Claimed GTA 5 Enhanced

It's Not Automatic For Everyone

You should have the enhanced edition in your account automatically, but if you're having trouble migrating, it could be because you've yet to claim it or download it. Consider checking the store page of your preferred PC games storefront to ensure the enhanced edition is in your library, then make sure it's fully installed on your PC before trying again. Also consider verifying the game's files by right-clicking on it in your Steam library, then choosing Properties, Installed files, and Verify.

If All Else Fails, Just Wait

GTA Online Servers Are Slammed Right Now

If none of the above solutions have worked for you, consider taking a little time before trying again. The GTA servers are packed right now; it's quite possible the problem is on Rockstar's end, not yours, and your request to migrate simply can't be processed at the moment. Give it a few hours, and see if it works better.

Unfortunately, it seems like many players' issues with migrating stem from their use of mods; even if they didn't use them for cheating, their presence on a player's account may completely prevent them from migrating to the enhanced edition.
